Reflection. Many people are aware of the term lent. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and is observed for forty days until Holy Week. Lent is a time when Catholics reflect in preparation for Easter. By observing the forty days of Lent, Catholics replicate Jesus Christ’s sacrifices during the forty days he spent in the desert. Here are some facts you may not have known about the season of Lent. Forty is a very significant number for Catholics: Jesus spent forty days in the desert; Noah waited for forty days for his ark to float; and Moses and his followers went through the wilderness for forty days before making it to the promised land. Lent comes from the word ‘lente’ means springtime. .
