Mass Rock, Bank, Rossmackowen, Beara Peninsula 51°39’31.7″N 9°47’57.6″W
Why is it a place of pilgrimage?
The Mass Rock was in use, like all other Mass Rocks during penal times. The Mass Rock itself is close to the pier, access is over rough terrain and can be surrounded by high tides.
Fr. Donal O’Connor (RIP) while curate in Castletownbere began a yearly Dawn Mass at the pier near the Mass rock in Bank on Easter Sunday, which was continued by retired priest Fr. Sean O’Shea (RIP).
