The celebration of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion is a very special moment in a child’s journey of faith. Preparing children for these sacraments is much more than teaching them prayers or helping them understand the words and rituals. It is about nurturing a relationship with Jesus, creating opportunities for prayer and reflection, involving families and parish communities, and helping children experience the joy of belonging to the Church. The Diocese of Kerry is committed to supporting parents, teachers, parishes and children throughout this journey. A range of resources are available below.

Parish Preparation Programme

This programme offers the parish a way of welcoming, supporting and engaging with families as they journey towards the celebration of their child’s First Holy Communion. Themed Monthly masses and fun activities together with children’s and parent’s involvement aim to make this a very memorable and faith filled journey for all.

Connecting Parish & School

Parish visits to our Catholic primary schools, especially by clergy, help strengthen the bond between school, home and parish, reminding children that they belong to a wider community of faith.  The Grow in Love: Connecting Parish & Schools book is a very helpful resource, guiding parish visitors to where each class is in the Grow in Love curriculum throughout the year. By highlighting the topics and themes children are exploring and suggesting questions to ask, it helps visitors make their time with each class meaningful, engaging and connected to the children’s learning.
