Message from Fr Michael,
Dear Parishioners,
As Spring continues to brighten and give new life there are signs of hope. For me, the recent ordination of Sean Murphy, Glenbeigh, as deacon for the Diocese of Kerry is a source of joy and hope. Sean will be ordained to the priesthood later this year. God continues to call. For years we have prayed for peace in Northern Ireland and now all sides are willing to work together. We give thanks to God. We think of the people of Ukraine as the second anniversary of the war approaches. We also remember the victims of the war in the Middle East and pray that peace will prevail especially in the war torn parts of the world.
In his recent pastoral letter Bishop Ray Browne outlines the issues facing the diocese. In the time ahead fewer priests will be available. He has formed a planning group representative of laity, religious and clergy, and of all ages, to oversee the planning process. The first step in the process is consulting the people of the parishes.
A Parish Listening Evening will be held in our parish on Tuesday February 27th at 7.30pm in Benner’s Hotel. As preparation for the gathering, you are invited to reflect on the following questions:
- Without the presence of a priest to lead and coordinate, what aspects of parish life could we, the laity, take responsibility for and organise ourselves?
- Where do we see scope for cooperation with neighbouring parishes in our pastoral area?
The invitation is open to all and you are encouraged to attend. In parallel with this, there will be consultation with the clergy. While there are challenges ahead Bishop Ray expresses his sincere gratitude to all who, by your faith and prayers, and your involvement, contribute to the life of your parish community and diocese. He thanks all our priests, in active ministry and retired, for their dedicated, loving ministry. He asks for prayers during this consultation and planning process. The complete letter can be read here
At the heart of our Lenten activities each year is a desire to grow closer to God, and to reflect God’s love in our world. Each Lent is an opportunity to recommit to prayer either at home or in the Church, alone or with the family, coming to know God, letting ourselves be touched by the God of compassion.
Envelopes for Spring and Easter Priest’s Offerings are being distributed to your homes at this time. These can be placed in the Building Fund Boxes at the back of the 3 Parish Churches. Also, enclosed is the Trócaire Box which you can return to the Church or Presbytery at Easter time. Many thanks for your continued support and generosity to the Parish and its priest.
Le gach dea-ghuí.

A Prayer for the Synod in Rome
Holy Spirit, breath of Pentecost, you send us to proclaim Christ and to welcome into our communities those who do not yet know him. Come down, we pray, upon the participants of the Synod and upon all who are present in this church, filling them with your wisdom and courage in order to be servants of communion and bold witnesses of your forgiveness in today’s world! We make this prayer through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Yours in Christ
Fr Michael

Reflection
Come, Spirit who is our Light,
shine among the shadows within,
warm and transform our hearts.
Come, Spirit who makes a home in us,
draw us to the treasures of your dwelling,
Reveal to us the inner journey of love.
Come, Spirit, consuming Fire of Love.
Fill us with enthusiasm for your vision.
May the desire for truth be vibrant in us.
Come, Spirit, source of our Peace.
Deepen in us the action of peacemakers.
Heal the divisions that ravage the earth.
Come, Spirit of wisdom and insight.
Draw us toward your goodness and light.
Direct our growth and guide our ways.
