Youth Ministry Training

Diocese of Kerry responds to young people
Youth Ministry is the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people, and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community. Youth Ministry is more than programmes and youth events. At the heart of ministry with young people is the presence of caring, supportive relationships where youth experience the Good News.
Thirty-two adults from the twelve Pastoral Areas in the diocese are currently undergoing training to develop the knowledge and skills required for creative engagement with young people in parish, school and diocesan settings. The first training weekend led by Brian McKee focussed on The Principles of Youth Ministry and we have just completed the second weekend on Youth Ministry Leadership led by Fr. Michael Kelliher CSsR. This is the first course of this nature to take place in Kerry.
Enabling the gifts of young people will make a real difference in Church, society and the world at large. This course, delivered by the Redemptorist Youth Ministry team in collaboration with the Diocese of Kerry will equip leaders to reach out and undertake this key role with young people.

What is Youth Ministry?
It is about reaching out and engaging with young people and enabling them to grow, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

It is about offering young people a place to explore and reflect on what is important or gives meaning to their lives.
It involves them in active participation in the local parish.
It offers opportunities to experience Jesus Christ in their lives.
It supports the wider community to recognise and cherish the talents and gifts of all young people.
Youth ministry is more than programmes and youth events. It is “the response of the Christian community to the needs of young people, and the sharing of the unique gifts of youth with the larger community.” (A Vision of Youth Ministry) At the heart of ministry with young people is the presence of caring, supportive relationships where youth experience the Good News in the flesh.
