Time for Creation is a five week period from September 1st – October 4th across Christian Churches globally. This Am Cruthaithe is a time to grow in awareness, pray and take decisive action to promote care for all creation. Here in the Diocese of Kerry we will hold a Prayer Service in the Town Park, Tralee at 6.45pm this Friday. The Diocesan Justice and Peace committee has chosen “Cherishing God’s Gift of Food” as the focus theme for the Time for Creation events. There is a Time for Creation Reflection Brochure available in all parishes as well as online offering points to ponder and simple activities for use at home and in parishes. This brochure is also available as gaeilge Time for Creation as gaeilge.
On Tuesday 12th September Donal O’Leary will present a workshop on “Reducing Food Waste and Composting” Composting Evening . This takes place in the John Paul II Pastoral Centre in Killarney at 8pm. Donal’s workshop will contribute to Pope Francis’ belief that “everything in the world is connected and that caring for the eco-system requires far-sightedness”.
For those of you with culinary interests, Mark Doe will be presenting a Cookery Demonstration “Being Creative with Leftovers” Mark Doe cookery demo in Our Lady and St Brendan’s Pastoral Centre, Tralee on Thursday 28th September at 8pm. Pope Francis acknowledges the stark reality that almost a third of all food is discarded, and that “whenever food is thrown out, it is as if it were stolen from the table of the poor”. Learning new recipes might be one of the ways we can simply and consciously care for creation in our daily lives. After all, as our Gaeilc proverb says “ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine”… agus an cruthú mar an gcéana! We all share our common home – people and all of creation.
All events are free and tá fáilte chuig chuile duine! For more ideas and prayers visit the diocesan website – dioceseofkerrry.ie. To facilitate the workshops, please register beforehand: 064 6632644
