Confirmation money helps

Mombasa children living in slums are being helped by Kerry children!  Last year, the children of Kerry donated €10,900 at Confirmation time to the children of Bangladesh slum in Mombasa, Kenya. Yes, that is the name or ‘Bangala’ for short, called after that country known for floods, overcrowding and poverty.

Yet, our children in Kerry are making a real contribution. The money was passed through St Patrick’s Parish that ministers to the slum of 95,000 people. Now our children are building a nursery school for 150 under 6s to give them a head start with a quality beginning in harsh environment.

There will be three classrooms, an office and store and upstairs a public hall, the only public hall in the area for meetings, weddings, seminars, entertainment. The total cost will be over €65,000 but our children have put in the foundation and built the first floor walls.

This is a fine achievement that Kiltegan Fathers Gabriel Dolan and Nicky Hennity really appreciate. Well done to our children. The remainder of the structure will be done with similar donations from like minded people. Keep up the good work.
