Bishop Ray Browne launched the new Diocesan Pastoral Plan 2016-2020, Be Christ’s Joy, at a night of celebration in Killarney on Monday Nov 23rd. Over 350 people came from all corners of the diocese to participate in the launch. Post-primary students from Presentation Secondary School, Tralee created a sense of gathering and celebration as they wove different coloured flags, reflecting the variety of gifts and creativity within the diocese. Musicians Mícheál, Seán, Breda and Cian from Fossa accompanied the night with lovely traditional airs. With Fr. Pat Ahern, they enacted the Beatitudes, reminding all of us that we are called to be salt of the earth and light for the world. Fr. Ger Godley presented the key goals of the plan. Dr. Patricia Kieran, Mary Immaculate College, shared her reflection on the hope and vision offered by the plan at this stage of the diocese’s life. Based on the life, ministry and call of Jesus Christ and echoing Pope Francis’ invitation to all Catholics, the plan calls each of us to take responsibility for welcoming compassionate communities, deepening our faith in Jesus Christ and living in service of others, especially those who are most vulnerable.
